Senate Resolution 35

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. MOSES HARDY ON BEING THE OLDEST LIVING WORLD WAR I VETERAN.

WHEREAS, Mr. Moses Hardy, a native of Aberdeen, Mississippi, and who recently celebrated his 106th birthday, is believed to be the oldest living World War I veteran; and

WHEREAS, a loyal patriot to his country, Mr. Moses served from July 1918 to July 1919, in France with the 805th Pioneer Infantry during the war; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hardy, a scout for the infantry, spent 39 days in actual combat during World War I and was released from Camp Shelby near Hattiesburg; and

WHEREAS, the father of eight children, Mr. Hardy returned to his hometown of Aberdeen where he farmed, drove a school bus and sold cosmetics; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hardy is an active member of Mount Olive Church where he has served as the superintendent of his Sunday school class for the past 75 years; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hardy was recently awarded the Victory Medal and the Occupational Medal from General George S. Walker, assistant adjutant for the Mississippi National Guard; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Senate of State of Mississippi to recognize and pay special tribute to such outstanding Mississippians as Mr. Moses Hardy, whose loyalty and courage is an example for all to follow:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Moses Hardy on being the oldest living World War I veteran and extend to him our heartiest wishes for many years of good health, happiness, peace and joy.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Moses Hardy and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
